The Countdown is on

Moonlight Rainbow Books is on the countdown to its virtual opening. While I find my feet in this new space I will be launching (with a little “l”) the site selling a selection of seasonal books I love (a few others might get added to the mix because I can’t resist)
This is me dipping my toe in the book world water. I’ve talked about opening a picture bookshop for a very long time. For most of that time having the notion of it was enough though, an idyllic daydream to escape into every now and then (the full fat, full sugar daydream is a cosy wee bricks and mortar place somewhere in the East Neuk, with lots of fairy lights, snug seating & decent free coffee for the grown ups, with an old fashioned bell that cheerily chimes as you come in and you kind of feel like you’re in another world where it’s calm and hopeful…not that I’ve thought about it much…) But then the day dream became frustrating and I kept thinking well, why can’t it ever be real? It’s not winning the lottery. I could attempt this. Now, it is possible that I was in a state of hallucination and swirling hormones due to new baby sleep deprivation (still ongoing if you can’t tell by these wandering posts) but whatever the motivation was, I decided to “maybe just look into an online shop…maybe…should I? What do you think? Could I? This is a terrible idea…what am I even thinking? How do you actually get books to sell? (swear words) It would be good though eh? How do you even start a business? This is stupid isn’t it? I think I should. What should I call it?” And here we are.
This (very soft) launch is also (foolishly) coinciding with me heading back to teaching post-maternity leave! In for a penny, in for a pound and all that! Why make things easy when you can feel stressed instead?!
I have a lot of big ideas about where I’d like Moonlight Rainbow to go in the future but for now they will remain daydreams while we take these first baby steps.
I hope you enjoy the site when it does launch and find books to love.
P.S. Some picture books we are loving reading at home currently are:
“The Pencil” (2008) by Allan Ahlberg
“Lines” (2017) by Suzy Lee
“If You Come to Earth” (2020) by Sophie Blackall
“No!” (2011) by Marta Altes
“Bear's Wash Day” (2024) by Nicola Kent
“Lizzy and the Cloud” (2022) by Eric Fan and Terry Fan
